When the reserved British theologian C.S. Lewis (author of The Chronicles of Narnia) meets the American poet Joy Gresham, he has no idea how their lives will soon become entwined. As a religious scholar, he thinks he knows why God lets people suffer. But then he meets Joy, and this beautiful play follows their timid steps from first meeting to a full, loving relationship, complicated by illness, the constant risk of loss and the doubts that spring up when an intellectual is confronted by actual grief.
