Heroes is Tom Stoppard’s award-winning adaptation of Gerald Sibleyras’ delightfully whimsical comedy Le Vent de Peupliers (The Wind in the Poplars). Set in a French military hospital in 1959, it focuses on three First World War veterans who meet every morning on their quiet terrace to look past the cemetery, beyond the poplars, and dream of escape. Fired by the idea of a trip beyond the garden walls, the men embark on a story that’s at once funny, poignant, sad and absurd.
