Originally produced Off-Broadway in 1987, this poignant and charming play became an instant hit. And it’s easy to see why. It’s a life-affirming comedy about four mentally handicapped men living in one apartment and trying to make their way in a complicated world. We're invited to look into scenes of their daily lives where little things sometimes become momentous and often humorous.

Where the 'Boys' are
They're at the Barn Theatre in RVP's controversial production

"With nine actors onstage who are persuasive in their roles, and Kim Bromley's able direction, this production is a genuine slice of life."
Cari Lynn Pace, Marin Scope Newspapers

"Kim Bromley's direction keeps the pacing tight and generously weaves the humor into the situation of people suffering the results of years of confusion. The heartbreaking aspects are not heavy-handed and the well-timed laughs are set up and delivered with perfect rhythm."
Albert Goodwyn
Examiner.com / Member - SF BATCC

"Director Kim Bromley, on her second time out with the script, doesn't coddle her audience; she boldly goes for the laughs. Jeff Garrett's performance...in one of the most powerful moments of the evening...is surprising and terrifying; and, in spite of all the laughs in The Boys Next Door, his performance is the one you take home."
Lee Brady - Pacific Sun

"Compelling story and well-balanced cast."
Barry Willis-Marin IJ

" 'The Boys Next Door' is a brave undertaking by RVP. With its solid foundation of compelling story and well-balanced cast, it informs by entertaining."    **** Four stars
Barry Willis-Marin IJ

"Humor is the emphasis in Griffin’s sensitive script, and Bromley’s able cast captures each individual with detailed, amusing performances."
Flora Lynn Isaacson - San Francisco Bay Times
