Buzz at the Barn, Sat, Jan 21, 2012

Goldsmith’s comic masterpiece has endured and delighted since its first production in 1773.  It was perhaps the first “situation comedy”.

Set, and originally produced, during the time of the American Revolution, the play sparkles with period costumes and witty characters.

This comedy of manners is full of tricks and deceptions, love in bloom, a disappearing jewel box and social climbing characters.  You’ll meet the affluent Hardcastles, two pair of young lovers and the pleasure-seeking scamp, Tony Lumpkin with renewed delight.

“Comically charged…Goldsmith knew how to make people laugh… A comedy of its time, for all times.”  New York Times, 2009
